New Delhi, Aug 24: DP World and the Professional Golf Tour of India have launched the Race to DP World India Championship, a new season-long competition designed to bring greater excitement to the 2026 Indian professional golf season and create a stronger pathway for Indian golfers to the international stage.
The new format will make the DP World India Championship 2026 the decisive final event of the season. The tournament will be held at Delhi Golf Club from October 15 to 18 with a prize purse of US$4 million. The PGTI Order of Merit champion will be decided after the championship, giving the season finale added importance.
The Race will feature nine PGTI tournaments with a combined prize purse of ₹10 crore. Three events have already been completed, while six more are scheduled through October 3. The series will conclude with the inaugural Kapil Dev Invitational Tour Championship at Jaypee Greens in Greater Noida.
The new structure will give players a clear target throughout the season. After the Greater Noida event, the top 24 players in the Race standings will earn places in the DP World India Championship. The top 60 players in the PGTI Order of Merit will also retain their playing rights for the 2027 season.
The revamped calendar also brings an important change to Indian professional golf. The PGTI season will now conclude in October rather than December, bringing it closer to the DP World Tour calendar. This alignment is expected to create a smoother pathway for leading Indian golfers to move into international competition.
The initiative is aimed at rewarding consistency and giving players more meaningful opportunities as the season progresses. For emerging golfers, the new format also provides an additional platform to compete for recognition and take the next step in their careers.
The partnership between DP World and PGTI reflects a shared focus on strengthening India's golfing ecosystem and creating opportunities for homegrown players to compete at a higher level.
The 2026 season will ultimately culminate at Delhi Golf Club, where the leading players will battle for the DP World India Championship title and the final positions in the season standings. The new format promises a more competitive finish while giving Indian professional golf a stronger connection with the global game.
