Pune, 17th July 2024: GIIS Balewadi demonstrated its commitment to environmental sustainability through a successful ‘Van Mahotsav- Tree Plantation Drive’, organised in collaboration with the NGO Yogkshem. This initiative was led by Executive Director Ankita Ingale and Founder Director Gyaneshwar Kotgire, to plant crore saplings in the next five years.
The tree plantation drive at GIIS Balewadi was a huge success. Around 65 students from the campus came forward to support the initiative and planted over 80 saplings in the nearby area. Their enthusiasm and dedication to environmental conservation reflect GIIS Balewadi’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
The drive was spearheaded by API Somnath Panchal (Assistant Police Inspector, Hinjewadi), alongside local leaders Mr Ankush Misal, Mayur Bhande (Sarpanch, Mahalunge), and Mr Baba Tare (President of Pune City Patrakar Sangh and Sakal Reporter). Their presence underscored the community’s collective effort toward a greener future.
The event started with kindergarten students planting saplings within the school premises. Their enthusiasm symbolised hope and a greener future. The main event took place at the divider adjacent to the campus, chosen for its visibility to inspire broader community participation.
Grade 10 students with the chief guests, actively participated in the drive. This involvement highlighted the importance of youth in environmental conservation efforts. The collaboration between students and dignitaries emphasised the shared responsibility towards nurturing the environment.

The aim to organize the plantation drive was to actively participate in the global fight against climate change and to educate students on the importance of environmental conservation. By involving students in this hands-on activity, the school strives to foster a culture of sustainability and responsibility, helping students recognize the impact of their actions on the environment.
