RVNL observes World Quality Day, Week, and Month—Reinforcing its Commitment to Building a Stronger, Modern India

Nov 25: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways, is observing World Quality Month throughout November, the designated month for promoting awareness about the importance and impact of quality management in infrastructure development.

To mark the occasion, RVNL’s Programme Implementation Unit (PIU) at Pune, which is executing the “Pune Metro Reach–01 Extension Project,” organized a special event today, 13th November, to celebrate World Quality Day.

This year’s global theme— “Quality: Think Differently”—encourages organizations to challenge conventional approaches and embrace innovative methods in quality management.

About the Pune Metro Reach–1 Extension Project

The Pune Metro Reach–1 Extension Project is being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro).

The extension forms part of the North–South Corridor (Purple Line) of the Pune Metro.

RVNL’s scope includes the design and construction of an elevated viaduct measuring 4.519 km, extending from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Nigdi (Bhakti Shakti) Station. This vital extension will significantly enhance connectivity across suburban, residential, industrial, and commercial zones within the Pune Metropolitan Region.

Highlights of the Celebration

The event underscored the role of quality as a catalyst in transforming India into a global hub for safe, sustainable, and future-ready infrastructure. It emphasized that quality is not merely a technical benchmark but a core enabler of ‘Viksit Bharat’, directly contributing to the nation’s long-term growth, efficiency, and competitiveness.

Key highlights included:

• Quality Pledge: All employees reaffirmed their commitment to implementing and upholding the highest quality standards in every project activity.
• Knowledge Sessions: Presentations and discussions focused on quality assurance, innovation, and global best practices in project execution.
• Statistical Improvement: The Standard Deviation of quality parameters has been reduced to 0.84, reflecting enhanced consistency and precision.
• Structural Advancement: The team achieved jointless or low-joint piers using 8–10-meter pier shuttering, improving both strength and aesthetics.
• Material Optimization: Multiple mix design trials were conducted to reduce cement consumption while maintaining top-tier strength and durability.
• Best Practices: Sessions covered Do’s and Don’ts in quality control, as well as quality aspects in precast segments, pre- and post-stressing operations, and segment launching.

Leadership Remarks

On this occasion, Shri Vinay Kumar Agrawal, Chief Project Manager, PIU Pune, stated: “The project is being implemented with advanced technical sophistication—segmental construction, large spans, and elevated viaduct structures. Our team is fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality, ensuring that every aspect of segment casting and viaduct construction meets stringent performance benchmarks with minimal joints.”
