Shimla, Apr 28 (BNP): Rising temperatures across large parts of the country have triggered a clear shift in travel patterns, with a growing number of tourists heading to the hill station of Shimla to escape the ongoing heatwave conditions.
Tourism stakeholders report an early and steady rise in bookings this summer season, with hotels, homestays, and guesthouses witnessing improved occupancy compared to previous years. The increased footfall is also benefiting allied sectors such as local transport, restaurants, retail shops, and adventure tourism services.
Business owners say the surge in arrivals has provided a much-needed seasonal boost, particularly for small and medium enterprises that depend heavily on summer tourism. Taxi operators, tour guides, and street vendors are also seeing stronger daily earnings as tourist movement increases across the town.
Industry experts note that extreme heat conditions in plains and metropolitan areas are becoming a key factor influencing domestic travel decisions. As a result, cooler destinations in the Himalayas are experiencing higher demand during peak summer months, extending the tourism season and supporting local employment.
At the same time, tourism authorities have cautioned that rising visitor numbers may strain local infrastructure, including roads, water supply, and waste management systems, during peak periods.
