“The successful completion of our Global Summit and our $1 billion pledge demonstrates our continuing effort to harness the power of businesses big and small, with one goal in mind: to help our planet,” said Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet. “With more than 5,400 businesses supporting over 6,500 environmental nonprofits globally, we’re as committed as ever to spur partnerships that accelerate environmental action. These billion dollars is unique because it represents a collective—it’s not just a couple philanthropists giving large sums of money—it’s thousands of individuals and businesses committing to better business, and this is the sum of those actions.”
1% for the Planet also hosted the first annual Summit Awards recognizing business members with awards for change and innovation, partnership, and leadership. 1% for the Planet expects these awards to continue annually and become a prestigious mark for businesses showcasing their impact.
